Clay, Cornhusks, Natural, & Found Materials

These Angels, magical creatures, and whimsical touching narratives by Armando Adrian-López, defy description. The subject matter stems from my interpretation of my native Mexican experience sprinkled with bits of awe, humor, and common sense and ranges from the heights of the sublime to the darker aspects of the world. They sparkle with 22 k gold leaf, gems, and ingenuity.

I construct a wire armature, then build on it using wrapped, woven, or folded corn husk, woven willow, or grasses. I sculpt the head & extremities using 3 types of clay. Details are painted. Piece is varnished & other natural materials, 22k gold leaf & precious/semi-precious stones added.
